Loss is a part of our life. It is a natural process like many other processes of life. While losing someone is not decided by our ability and capabilities, handling that loss is definitely in our capabilities. It is more challenging, but eventually, you need to move on with your life. Yes, the sadness will occupy your thoughts for some time, but you may feel better with time. Grieving allows an individual to overcome feelings of shock, confusion, and sadness so that a person can cherish the time they spent with their loved one.
Before we move further, it is crucial to understand that every human reacts differently to losing their dear ones. Similarly, the mechanism to cope with grief also varies. Research suggests that some people can overcome personal loss on their own as time passes if they get the required social support. Although it can take months or even years to get to terms with loss, there is still no standard time period for an individual to grieve. Plus, the type of relationship you had with the deceased also adds another dimension to the grieving process. It may take time before you finally adjust to this fact. In general, humans are naturally resilient beings because most of us can continue with our lives after enduring the losses we experience. But, the case with others is not so good. Some people may find difficulty coping with grief so much that they can’t even carry out their daily activities. Individuals who suffer from severe grief can benefit from psychotherapy and counselling. Read on to know more about grief counseling!
